At Stamford Health in Connecticut, the anatomic pathology team manages more than 58,000 accessions each year. With only five pathologists and four pathology assistants (PAs), the lab needed a way to keep pace with rising volumes, stricter compliance standards, and increasing pressure to deliver timely, accurate results.
Their solution? VoiceOver PRO, Voicebrook’s structured reporting platform built for pathology.
Before VoiceOver PRO, transcription delays slowed down reporting and left Stamford's pathologists feeling disconnected from their own work. Today, they dictate directly into their reports, leveraging voice commands and templates tailored to their practice.
Dr. Robert Babkowski, Chair of Pathology at Stamford Health, describes the change simply:
"VoiceOver PRO was by far one of the smartest decisions we've made as an organization. Frankly, it completely changed our workflow."
Dr. Elgida Volpicelli notes:
"PRO saves me at least two hours [per day]… not only efficient, it’s more accurate and allows you to have control over your reports, beginning to end."
VoiceOver PRO untethers physicians from transcription schedules, allowing them to work when and how they prefer. Dr. Babkowski likes that he can look at a complicated case at 7 AM or 7 PM, as he is "untethered to anyone else’s schedule."
With PRO, Stamford Health reached 100 percent compliance with CAP synoptic reporting and successfully completed cancer program and breast center accreditations.
"We are able to demonstrate that we are compliant with CAP synoptic reporting 100% of the time," says Dr. Babkowski.

By eliminating transcriptionists and reducing administrative burden, VoiceOver PRO generated cost savings equivalent to hiring:

As Dr. Babkowski explains: "VoiceOver PRO pays for itself multiple times over every year."
Stamford Health's pathology reports are now clearer, standardized, and more consistent. Clinicians no longer need to call for clarification, while embedded medical history and advanced speech recognition improve diagnostic accuracy.
"VoiceOver PRO is faster, it’s more accurate, and the responsibility is with the doctor beginning to end," says Dr. Volpicelli.
When Stamford Health migrated from Meditech to Epic Beaker, VoiceOver PRO ensured continuity for the pathology lab. Templates, commands, and workflows carried over seamlessly, preserving efficiency and minimizing disruption.
Dr. Babkowski praised PRO for allowing them to transition without losing efficiency: "The Epic and VoiceOver combination is an obvious winner."

In our next blog post, we'll go deeper into Stamford's Epic transition, explaining how PRO optimizes Epic for the specialized needs of anatomic pathology labs. Want to read more? Check out our Stamford Case Study.
